Welcome 2023-24 Hunters!

​ The Standard Season for the 58th Annual Big Buck Contest begins Saturday, November 4th, 2023 and will close January 7, 2024.

THE HUNT IS ON…and the Bucks are running! Four bucks were brought in the first Saturday, and two more on Sunday morning! There’s going to be lots of jerky, sausage, and steaks to enjoy, and share. Keep them coming through January 7th for Adult Contest and January 21st for Youth. Scroll down to see photos and stats.

Licensed Fayette and bordering county hunters are welcome to participate. This is our sixth year to sponsor a youth contest for age 16 and under. The Registration fee is $20 to enter either contest.

FREE kettle beef stew will be served to hunters and the community Friday, November 3rd at 8 pm. This is the last opportunity to sign up for the Adult Contest.

ADULT CONTEST SPECIFICS:

  1. Adult registration deadline is Friday, November 3, 2023
  2. Adult Season: Nov. 4, 2023 – January 7, 2024
  3. There are three cash winner categories:
    1) Most Points
    2) Widest Inside Spread
    3) Heaviest

YOUTH CONTEST SPECIFICS:

  1. Youth registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 27th, 2023.
  2. Youth season: Oct. 28 & 29, and Nov. 4 – Jan. 21, 2024.
  3. The total sum of youth registration fees will be given for prizes. Officials fees will not be withheld from the youth contest.
  4. Winners will be determined by: number of points + inside spread + length of the longest tine on either side of middle main beam = their score.
  5. Prize awards:
    – One winner for 10 or less entries.
    – Two winners for 11 or more.
    If score is a tie, the longest tine, on either side of the middle main beam will determine the winner.
  6. Cash prize distribution if there are two winners:
    – First Place 60%
    – Second Place 40%

NOTE: The Youth Contest is starting with $120 since no youth bucks were brought in during the 2022-23 season.

HUNTING RULES:

  1. Low fence hunting only. Rifle or bow may be used.
  2. All contest bucks must be field dressed and brought to the Cistern Country Store for official weight and measurement.
  3. Immediately after kill, hunters are asked to call one of the following officials to meet you at the Cistern Country Store for weighing and measuring:

    Officials will make a special trip to meet you here.
  4. All registration fees are paid out and divided among three prizes, except for compensation of $20/buck weighed in, which is paid to the officials for their time and travel.
